EARLY LIFE FOCUS (ELF)
Our space at the Centre for Clinical Research (CCR) at 5790 University Avenue!

Early Life Focus

Temperament, which is a collection of personal characteristics that are stable over time, is an important aspect to consider when researching the development of mental health. Our temperament develops early in life and affects how we react to situations throughout our lifetime. We would like to study the differences in temperament of young children from diverse backgrounds. This will allow us to learn what shapes the development of temperament and help us to design early interventions for the age group that would benefit most.

What to expect

Families with a 0-6 year old child who participate can expect an initial phone call which will focus on their child’s development and medical history, as well as the child’s interests, activities, and daily routines. Parents will complete questionnaires about their child. The follow-up appointments will be at our child-friendly observation unit at 5790 University Avenue. Young children will play games to show us how they think, learn, and play. They will also complete activities so we can see how they react when they are happy, scared, or sad.
