Covid Study

We were interested about the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on FORBOW parents and their children.

To study the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we invited FORBOW parents, youth, and young adults to complete interviews about their experience during the pandemic. Interviews for the COVID study were completed during yearly visits or remotely as separate interviews. Parents and young adults were asked how COVID-19 had impacted various areas of their life, their mental health, and their family.

Thank you to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Research Nova Scotia for supporting this study!

Needs Assessment Project

Lead Investigator: Jill Cumby

One of the FORBOW research goals is to better understand the needs of people living with mental illness. We wanted to learn from people who have life experience in this area. For example, what supports, services, information, and treatments did you need, but maybe not receive? Also, what things may have made daily life better and easier for you as an individual or family experiencing a mental illness? This information was especially important because we aim to create programs for parents and children affected by mental illness. Those programs will be most useful and successful with input from the people we are designing them for.

We hosted two focus groups. One for parents who have a mental illness, and another for those who had grown up with a parent with mental illness. For people who felt more comfortable speaking with an interviewer, we offered personal interviews.
